How to get your full settlement amount
- Check the lender named in your hire-purchase agreement. Have the account or agreement number, vehicle registration and intended payment date ready.
- Ask the bank for a full settlement statement or quote. Confirm its validity date, exact amount, payment channel and whether any rebate or discount is deducted upfront or refunded later.
- Pay as directed by the bank. After the payment clears, ask for confirmation that the account is closed and how to check the release of the bank’s ownership claim.
Provide identification details only through the secure channel specified by the bank.

A settlement quote is calculated for a specific date. Accrued charges, arrears, rebates or discounts can change the amount due. Confirm the amount and payment reference with your bank before making a transfer.
Goodwill discounts and Rule of 78
From 1 June 2026, banks offer goodwill discounts to eligible customers who settle fixed-rate hire purchase using Rule of 78 early. The transition period ends on 31 March 2027. Check your agreement’s calculation method and ask the bank to confirm eligibility and the discount amount.
